This pretty little number started out as a "What-Am-I-Going-To-Do-With-This-Baguette" sort of thing. I toasted the bread in the oven for a while and still didn't know what to put on it when I pulled it out.

Luckily, my trusty stomach helped me out ("A good chef must listen to his gut!"); I had started nibbling on a banana while the bread was toasting. I scraped out the last of my SUNBUTT (sunflower butter)...

...and smashed some bananas on top. (Really mashing those bananas up will come in handy in the next step.)

see? smashed.

Now here's the trick! Pop it back in the toaster until the top of your banana layer starts browning. This step activates the banabanoids and works them into the sunflowerbutter's fat.

Smother on some jam, and you have...

...love. YUM!

Hybridizing meat and plant? Animal and plant hibridization, I could see—that would be utterly ingenious. But this isn't animal and plant synthesis; this is meat and plant synthesis. Where's the fun in this? We're splicing a dead animal—a part of a dead animal—with a plant. What's happening here is the equivalent of calling a horse with human eyes a centaur.

Oh, hello, internet folk. Where have you been?

Yes, we haven't updated the blog in a while, but believe us when we say we have a good excuse.

The story starts a month ago when we were sidewalk walkin' and all of a sudden we spot the folks of MGMT. We approached them and we were like, "Oh, hey MGMT. What's going on?" and they said with a suspicious smirk on their face (in unison), "Oh, not much. Just going to a small get-together, care to join?"

Long story short...

We even saw E-603 there and we were like, "OMG E! What are you doing here? Don't you have an album to be releasing?" And he said, "Don't you understand? The music's in your heart." Then he slowly dissolved into rainbow dust particles. Moon juice is some crazy shit.

Anyways, after perhaps a good couple of eons of partying (yeah, eons) we jacked MGMT's motorcycles and time-traveled back "here" again.

When we arrived we couldn't quite recall our identities. For the past eternity we had been referred to as The Pleasant Pheasant and the Pleasephant, but now we were called by the odd names of "Chris" and "Rahul" leaving us perplexed as we walked the streets of "Dayton, Ohio" on "Planet Earth".

It all came together though, (Hummers, Juno, Obama, Cicadas, D's, Pancakes, Kanye West Concerts, The Cool Kids, Lykke Li, Apple Fries, Poke'Mon, Bikes) when we arrived at the Dayton Dirt Collective and heard the familiar sounds of our fellow time travelers, the andriod Ruckus Roboticus and the intergalactic ape-man, Vitamin E.

Listening to the comforting sounds of children's records cut up and scratched while getting acquainted with some interesting folk (Gretchen, Mateo James, and a mysterious boy under the alias "Billy Burdick" or "Dolla Bill")

By the end, after our journeys from the limits of the universe and back, we realized that there was only one truth in life...

Kung Fu.

So there. We are back. And if you're ready, we're ready too. If we're ready, you may not be ready but sometimes we may not be ready either so it's ok. Basically we are saying it's a definite possibility that we will keep up with the blog. But still. Be ready.

(In response to Did NYT Flop Obama Photo to Avoid Hitler-Like Salute?)

Earlier today, an illinformed friend told the folks at ComeCheckTheNoise that The New York Times reversed a photo of Barack Obama at the Victory Column at Tiergarten Park in Berlin so that it would seem as if he was giving a "Hitler-like salute" (This didn't make much sense to us). We then looked it up and found that instead the claim was that New York Times was trying to alter the picture to avoid the salute (That was a bit more believable). The primary proof of this was the backwards Angola banner that an audience member was holding up.

We felt this was a bit too blatant for The New York Times to supposedly try and pull off so the folks at ComeCheckTheNoise (being the curious folks we are) did some research ourselves comparing this photo to other photos taken at the event via flickr.com. The first photo found when searching "obama in germany" shows Barack at his podium which, when looking from the stage to the audience, is on the left side of the teleprompter. In The New York Times photo, the teleprompter is in the far left corner of the frame while the podium is cut off since it is too far left (no political pun intended). If The New York Times did indeed "flop" the photo then the podium would appear on the right side of the teleprompter in the altered photo.

In a second photo posted on Barack's Flickr page, Barack is indeed waving with his right hand (But hold on a second, Mr. Huston). If you compare the two photos (The New York Times photo and Barack's) you may notice that the man in the brown cowboy hat (to the bottom right side of Barack) is in the same position in both pictures. Furthermore, if the New York Times would try to prevent a right hand Hitler salute in their photo, why wouldn't Barack? Indeed, these pictures do show Barack raising different hands, but it is very unlikely that the two were shot simultaneously (notice the different actions in the crowd). What can we say, though? Barack is an amiable dude. He likes to wave to the crowd a lot.

Anyhow, we feel that this is enough proof to dispel any rumors about The New York Times and their supposed "Obama butt covering" (see original article). Looking at videos on Youtube of the Berlin event, there is plenty more evidence that can be found. The real question should have been: Why didn't anybody tell that guy that his Angola banner was backwards?

We do. And apparently everyone else does.

Honest to blog (eh?), we can't speak for Otis, but Charlie Bartlett and Persepolis are pretty solid films on their own. Yes, Juno did bring the Perks of Being A Wallflower / Catcher In The Rye (indie coming-of-age genre) film to mainstrem light. And yes, since then, a comparison to the movie can increase the sales of any somewhat comedic indie flick by 25% or more. But, Charlie Bartlett, do you really want to be remembered as the boy Juno. And you, Marjane? Do you want to go down as the non-pregnant, Persian Juno? We think not.
